Train Horn Kit
#13
Ok let me rephrase the title, since clearly there is a dislike for "Train Horns" and while I appreciate the feedback really none of the original questions were even touched on. Like another poster said I doubt these are very loud, my guess not much if any louder than an 18 wheeler air horn (same as I have in my motorhome) and funny enough have not gotten into any altercations over it, not doing it to **** people off, just something a little louder than stock 12V horn. And to the ones that said they wished they were outlawed I am pretty sure actual train horns are illegal in most places.
That being said has anyone upgraded their horn with good results? Obviously I do not want to spend $800 on it so I am all ears! Would like something that is made to bolt onto the truck and not interfere with servicing, drivability, etc

Yes, but you have a real Nathan stack. I've got a K5LA sitting around... just not sure I want to go to the expense of installing it (and the compressor, tank, lines, etc. necessary to make it sound worth a crap for more than 2 seconds).
For the OP...
I'm personally interested in the air compressor and tank. I think the "train horns" are crap, and they're mounted so far back that you'll get more noise in the cab than anywhere. I'd love to know the specs on the compressor and the size of the tank (maybe 1 gallon)?
As for the horns, I'd find something different. What I'm probably going to run is a 2-trumpet horn that was removed from a wrecked Mack truck. I think it's their stock unit. It's surprisingly loud, and just sounds like a good airhorn - not someone who's overcompensating with a "train horn".

I feel the same

Has anyone installed one of these, seen one in person, or played with? While I am sure it costs a premium for the kit it is nice that it is a complete bolt on solution with brackets and all so nothing needs to be fabbed up.

I wonder how this would hold up in the winter time with rocks, salt, etc always hammering it up here in Canada? I would particularly wonder about the compressor.
Just one of those things that looks cool and would be great for some bonehead drivers! Would be easy enough to install and add a switch to toggle between factory horn or the Train Horns.

Only time I wished I had some blasters was for that one idiot in the prius that nearly comes to a stop to make a right turn on a 45 MPH road, and then have the passenger look back at me as if I was doing something wrong! You know, horns mounted at the same height as that dinky back window.
Then again, maybe scarin a prius would be a bad thing https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=...91272266848793
