trailer brake controller - failure
Never buy motorcraft parts from amazon/sketchy parts sites. They are likely fakes. Theres tons of them out there. Tasca might be a good place if you're looking to save a few bucks, but dealership is guaranteed to give you the real part and what you need.
Same here. Got one off e-bay that claimed to be OEM but wasn't. I also had an issue with a parasitic draw that would kill my battery. Ended up getting a genuine OEM out of a wrecked truck and no more issues.

issue with factory style trailer brake (admittedly, yes its from amazon). when hooked to my enclosed, i can have someone pinch the trailer brake controller and hear the trailer brakes working. however, nothing when they hit the brake pedal. to troubleshoot this, we hooked it to his 22' F150 platinum - trailer brakes are activated by both the controller, and the pedal.
question to the forum think tank - is this just an issue because i went cheap and bought what i thought was a fine factory style brake controller? or do we think its something else?
i've read that i need part JL3Z-19H332-AA - which happens to be around 250 from the factory.
I went with this Amazon part (putting it here so no one else wastes money) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
thoughts? i feel like my testing methodology is sound. we know it the trailer brakes on the trailer work with a known working truck. seems to be isolated from mine. i'm just wondering if i've got something else wrong, or if i need to just pony up and buy the OEM Ford part.

I’d buy used/salvage yard. That seems viable.
after all these years, I think eBay and Amazon have become places for the scammers to settle

I have a 2017 Lariat with tow package.
Do you think the wiring harness for the trailer brake already exists in the dash? How will I recognize if it's there?

If it is there, you have the wiring. You also need to check the BJB at Fuse-49 to see if the terminals are there for the fuse, which is a 30 A that you will likely need to add.
As far as the fuse, I did not need to add one and I’m not sure why you’d need to on your truck. I heard that was mostly for 12th gen.
I got one of the amazon ones also..after install, it did all kinds of weird things...drained battery, brake lights would stay on (but only if in 4wd) etc. I ordered the OEM controller and installed it, however, I do not seem to have trailer brakes. Trailer lights all work fine, when the truck starts, dash says "trailer connected" but when I press on the brake pedal, nothing at the trailer brakes. when I manually activate the brakes from the controller, dash says "no trailer connected". Fuses are installed, forescan changes made. can adjust the gain up and down just not getting brakes. trailer and brakes work fine when attached to other vehicle so has to be a truck issue right? I think I read somewhere about a TSB by Ford for a software update for the controller, could this be a fix?
