Default Trailer Brake Controller activation

Anyone near Houston can recommend a dealer to get it activated for cheap? I got it installed following Youtube, then called around. The lowest cost one dealer asked was like $125. How come you guys can get it for free or $40?

If you're handy with computers at all just buy a wireless OBD II adapter and activate it with FORScan. See the sticky in this forum for details. I paid a dealer $50 to activate mine, then was kicking myself when I realized I could've got FORScan and done it myself for free. If you still want a dealer to do it, just call around. It literally takes them 5 mins to connect to the truck and activate it, so they shouldn't charge anything really, but $50 was the lowest I could find near me.

Thanks!

Saw some earlier posts, and everyone was saying it has to be a Ford dealer. But I'll look into it. I called every dealer within 20~30 miles, the price goes from 125 to 160.

But you will have it to do several other things and if you're good you may be able to do it for others and get some tip$ for it.

^^^This. It's nice to be able to read DTCs on other vehicles and also log data as you drive. Well worth it. Given equal costs, I'd rather pay for a tool that I keep than a one time service any day.
