Default TRailer brake controller

my 2016 f150 came with tow package but no brake controller.

Is the brake controller plug and play?
Do you need to add a fuse or wire at the fuse box to activate the hot wire?

The genuine ford controller is $200, autozone is $79. Any experience adding these.

The TBC can also be enabled using FORScan

I added one to my 2016 XLT. It was well worth it and provides a nice integrated look vs an aftermarket controller. I activated mine via forscan.

The factory unit is sweet, it even integrates the anti-sway for the trailer.

The genuine Ford controller is not $200 when purchased from a Ford dealer that maintains an online presence. Anywhere from $80 - $120 or so depending on the model year. www.varsityfordparts.com is one option.

Just got one installed at dealer on my 2015. Part was 143 and labor 200. Looks good and like the fact that it is OEM.

I bought mine off of Amazon for $108. Installed it myself in about 30 mins. My local Ford dealer activated it for free. There are videos on youtube how to install it. I have the 302a package. And tow package. Mine had the fuse already. Weird that a trailer brake controller is as difficult to have in these trucks as it is
