Default Trailer attached?

Got my truck used ('15 XLT 300a). It has an aftermarket hitch. When I connect a trailer, I get no message on the dash indicating something is connected. I thought it was supposed to, but could be wrong. I have the non-touchscreen 4.2" version of Sync if that matters. Anyone know?

Only with the 7 pin plug will you get the message.

I don't believe this is 100% correct. When I plug my boat into the flat 4 I get alerted that it's connected. That being said I think you do need both the 7 and 4 pin factory for this to work. My 2015 only had the flat 4 and there were no trailer settings/alerts.

If you had to add the 7 pin, then you don't have the Smart Trailer Tow Connector. That means your truck is not monitoring the trailer connection, you lucky dog. You can hook all of your add on lights to the trailer wiring harness without causing problems. Your trailer connection is no different than trailer connections were in the 60's.
