Default trading for an older truck with more options?

basically, i really want a Platinum. the wife has flat out told me a new one is out of the question (yeah, yeah, here come the jokes) but I've thought about getting a used 15 or 16, if I can find one around $40000 with under 40000 miles (i'd like to stay closer to 30000 though) i could probably talk her into it as my payment wouldn't change and might even go down a little.

i have a 16 501A 5.0 FX4 with dual moonroof, nav, chrome pack and 20s. i've had it since october of last year, got it brand new and it has 22,xxx miles on it now.

if I keep the truck, I'm definitely doing oem LEDs all around, 502a bezel, some sort of audio upgrade and possibly the 17 Platinum steering wheel swap.

if i get a 15 Platinum, I'll want to do the sync 3 upgrade and i'll want to do the steering wheel upgrade whether i get a 15 or 16 or keep the Lariat. I'll also likely do some wheels and tires whichever way I go and possibly level the truck out.

so what would you do? put money into what I've got or trade out and put money in that?

Really it comes down to how bad you want a Platinum. You could change everything under the sun on your Lariat, but at the end if the day if your heart is set on a Platinum you won't be happy with what you have.

We could have gotten a brand new XLT cheaper than what we got our 502a Lariat for. But I wanted all the options it had so we bought used. 2015 with 28,000 miles for 38k out the door.

Me since i'm not trying to impress any body and very poor hearing havent turned radio on since new, live in the desert so moon roof would bake my brain and clog up with sand, leather seats would just burn my bun's so I just try to stay away from all that touchy fealey stuff that rattles, leaks, shorts out, and involve continuous trips to dealer for repair all for the sake of vanity. I will drive my XLT and keep my wallet in my pocket.

I'd keep what I had, if it's problem free. Too big of a risk buying a used one to replace it, might end up with someone else's problem. Plus, I've never been able to trade down and come out well. I tried once, the dealers always wanted more money, even though what I owned was worth more than what I was trying to trade for, kbb, etc.

just my opinion. Good luck.

My vote is keep it. You bought it new, you know the truck. No sense trading in a truck like that for a used one, that you have no idea the history of, for few more features. But, thats my 2 cents. I ordered a loaded XLT new, could have easily bought a used Platinum, but I'd rather have the new truck vs used.
