When I got new tires in the spring the Discount Tires receipt said they move the TPMS sensors over as part of the installation. Since I had no idea where the sensors were I did literally think they took them out of the old tires and put them in the new ones lol. But, if they are on the rims then obviously they didn't move them.
A few TPMS sensors were bolted in recesses in rims in the mid 2000's. Needlessly complex, mostly abandoned by industry. Today the sensor is bolted to the valve stem. Discount Tire replaces the valve stem with new tires, even the metal valve stems. Gets new seals to the rim. The TPMS sensor has to come off the old valve stem and is screwed to the new.
