TPMS accuracy?
Finally got some quality driveway time or alone time with my new truck today after taking delivery a week ago. Busy schedule and poor weather to blame. Anyway, I noticed that my tire pressure seemed a bit high according to the TPMS readout. Pressures ranged from 41-44. I figured that I would bleed a little air out so I grabbed my tire pressure gauge and unscrewed a valve. 50 psi!!
I thought that I had a good quality gauge but now I'm not so sure. The TPMS and my gauge disagree by about 6psi. That is a fairly significant variance. Just wondering how many others have manually checked their tire pressure and how it compares with their TPMS readout. I'm high on pressure either way, but if my manual gauge is correct than my TPMS reads way low to the actual psi.

Just go buy a cheap pressure gauge and see what that one says. Your TPMS should be fairly accurate. I don't have a 2015 F-150 but the TPMS on my 2012 Camaro is right on with my tire pressure gauges.
TPMS are hit & miss in my experience. Mine currently read a consistent 4psi lower than a manual pressure Guage. I've checked air pressure with 3 different gauges & they're all the same, but my TPMS read 4psi lower than my actual pressure.
Mine are close,, always check the pressure when tires are cold. Never let air out of HOT tires to bring them down to COLD pressure. Pressure can increase by 5 or more pounds just from driving for awhile. Also pressure changes just by outside air temperature.
Yes, I did check them when cold. Truck had not moved for at least 2hrs and outside temp would have been in the mid to upper 40's.
That's what I will do. At least I can see how a cheap gauge compares to my "fancy gauge". If my manual gauge is correct, the dealer or the KC factory filled those puppies to 50 psi. Crazy high right?

But then dealer might overfill them so you get better mileage, but then you get a harder ride in your new truck.. Heck they might even fill the tank with real gas so your mileage looks really good for the first tank.. Or with E85 to save a buck and tell you to break it in before figuring the mpg.
