Default Towing with EB

I have a 15 Plat with 3.5EB with just the standard towing package. I usually only tow my mower from my shop to my house on a 18ft landscaping trailer. So maybe 2500lbs combined. I usually never get above 10mpg. A lot of times it will stay in 5th at higher rpms and never shifts into 6th. And if it does its not for long and goes back into 5th. Even on the highway. I feel like the EB shouldn't have that much trouble pulling very little weight. I've tried putting it in towhaul and without. I've tried messing with the trailer brake. I'll note when pulling it will feel like the trailer is tugging a lot and can definitely tell its behind me. Last week I had around 335 miles till E and only drove 25 miles from my shop, to my house and back to the shop and it was already down to 220 miles till E. I know that has to do with your average MPG, but you get the point.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Stay out of the boost as much as possible.

That's impossible. Going down the highway barely on the throttle it's using boost.

my In-Laws are farmer/ranchers, they pull a heavy ***, Combine header, the front thing that cuts the crop

they used to have a hemi, they bought a '13 Boost and they claim it pulls a lot better then the Hemi, as they towed it all around Kansas, Neb to Wyo

what rear gear do you have?

That's pretty terrible. I've been looking at new F-150 to replace my 2004 Silverado RCSB with the 5.3L V8/ 4 speed auto / 3.73 rear end with a 265/75/16 tire. I typically tow in 3rd gear. Recently hauled a 1970s John Deer 2130 series and a heavy duty trailer... probably 8K lbs or more. I kept it around 60 mph, but averaged 13 mpg.

I should mention that I have a BlackBear tune.

It should not even break a sweat towing that. Either your trailer breaks are shorted out and stuck on or your going to slow causing the engine to lug in a high gear.

I would do a few things, first get the trailer up in the air and make sure all of the wheels turn freely and tire pressure is correct, if not you may have found the problem.

IF it passes that test then I would next start the truck up and have somebody then hit the brakes in the truck and then let off and see of your wheels still spin freely and do that a few times to rule out that your controller isn't sticking or brakes sticking ETC.

if it passes those tests and still tows crappy then go find an area of road with nobody really around and tow the trailer with the trailer plug disconnected to rule out that something isn't making your controller activate the brakes while the truck is actually in motion.

Have you ever felt your trailer rims after towing it to see if they are hot, if so the bearings or brakes are not working properly.

Your truck shouldn't even know a small landscape trailer is back there, I tow a 27' boat with mine and it shifts into 6th fine and stays there unless I start hitting some hills

10 MPG while towing is not good unless you are going up alot of hills. No truck is going to get good mpg pulling up hill.

I towed our Flagstaff 25KS with the 2014 EB all over Florida and Alabama and it will get around 13 to 14 keeping it at 65 MPH. I don't try to race around while towing. This EB tows way better than the 05 5.4 could ever do and gets way better mileage.

I have not towed the camper with the new 2015 but I expect about the same mileage while towing maybe better.

I did tow my trailer with the tractor on it for about an 1 1/2 drive. Had to take the tractor in because a couple cylinders are leaking on the bucket and then pulled the trailer back empty.

I got around 17 MPG pulling the trailer with the tractor.

I have around 1500 miles on the truck now. This is an old pic. I have not yet installed the amp power boards and bags in the back.

Default Towing with EB

I tow about 5.5k boat and get around 10ish as well with the 3.5EB, I do drive aggressive with it but yes I'm still disappointed in that to say the least. My Hemi would get a few more towing but I will say the Eco yanks the you know what out of it though. From a dry stop its a beast and feels stronger then my buds 2015 f350 dually (I've towed same boat with both)
