Default Towing capacity anyone?

I am curious what the 2.7 can handle towing wise.

I haven't seen anyone else question it which is strange if you ask me.

It's been questioned but no data has been put out yet... Most are just worried about the MPG this little giant is suppose to put out.. On the videos that FORD put out it says more towing.. I'm guessing this little 2.7 will be around 10K and the 3.5 will be around 12K

The articles I've seen have been predicting around 8000. They indicate that the 2.7 is going to be marketed towards people that don't tow and want the best possible gas mileage.

Ford says it is up to 700lbs lighter. I would assume the "up to" statement means Screw's with 6.5' bed.

So I would agree with your guess of ~10k and ~12k but with a much improved allowable tongue weight.

Here's where I read it, and Motor Trend is predicting less than 8000 lbs for the 2.7 liter.

http://www.trucktrend.com/roadtests/...50_first_look/

Next is a brand-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6, and according to it Ford isn’t related to the 3.5-liter engine. This engine features a compacted-graphite iron block, which is light but tough, and the engine is optimized for high fuel economy. The 2.7-liter is designed for buyers who won’t need to tow 8000 pounds.

They could be right, a lot will depend on Ford's rear-end options for the 2.7.

in the TFL Truck videos, he shows the new truck and it has a plow on it. Thats kind of cool if thats the case.

I know current ones shouldn't have a plow because of the Electronic power steering.

With these trucks being 700 lbs lighter I am thinking the payload will go up and towing as well in the 3.5 and 5.0

I feel like 2.7 8k lbs could be right but the 10k could be also. 2.7 just seems so small to me my accord had a 2.4. I know apples to orange here but displacement alone it just feels weird.

I believe the trucks will be rated per SAE J2807 (or whatever the SAE towing test is) at maximum however I also suspect some may be rated lower to provide a cushion for future increases without changes...and also to ensure sufficient differentiation between models/engines. Why rate the 2.7EB 9.5k when you can push people to a higher priced 5.0 to get that tow rating?)

I'm guessing the 2.7 will be rated to tow about 6,000. Hey, we already got great towing Ecoboost 3.5 and the 5.0. I don't see this engine getting too close towing capacity of those.
