More important than towing is payload... You can't very easily tow the max towing rating on the ecoboost f-150 without hitting payload way before... If the weight goes down 500-700# in theory the payload could go up, but will they bump it up in the 2500# range? That'd in theory compete with their SD line...

Maybe the 2.7 will have better low end power than the high revving 5.0?

Sourced from Truck trend:
"Ford also says that it will start rating its trucks’ towing capacities according to the SAE J2807 standard, which was recently revised. You can expect Ram Truck and GM will also follow suit."

Speculation and number games are over. The buck stops here and it was a long time coming.

Yep, it will . . . Regardless of ratings, I'll bet the 2.7 Eco will have better low rpm torque characteristics than the 5.0 and may actually be a better towing machine in practical everyday use. Any engine can put out big numbers at 5,000 rpm; but what about 2,000 rpm?

If it were just acceleration tests the f150 Eco would boast. 15000 lb tow rating.... The braking and hitch twisting are tough tests. Otherwise fords would actually have an increase in rating.

There's also been a 3.5 accord for quite some time, exactly why the 3.5eco is horrible for towing/hauling.

ahhh yes the 3.5 accord with a terrible transmission. I wouldn't say horrible with the numbers it puts out. I would almost bet it will be equal to 5.0 or better

Yeah, many supercars have smaller displacements than trucks so they're all crap!

No, the games are not over. The test will determine the maximum rating but they can still publish a lower number (and I guarantee they will in some cases).

I know a lot has changed in 11 years, and mid size truck vs full size.

But my 2004 2.3 L ranger rated fair, but mpg was not in the equation. I towed a few times and got worse than my 5.4.

I guess let's wait and see rear end options.
