Default Towing an AS

Hi,

I'm considering a new Airstream Classic with a GVWR of 10000.

All the guys who have them are saying, go F250 6.7.

I'm considering a Super Crew 150. 3.5 Echoboost paired with a 3.55 rear end FX4 and a Max Tow Package.

Ford says the Tow capacity is 11,500.

Do you ya'll agree and I should be safe and go to the F250 or do you all think the new 150's are ok?

BTW, currently, I have a 2011 XLT 3.5 Echoboost paired with a 3.55 and a tow package. Tow capacity is 9800 and I tow a 29f Airstream Excella 1000 with no issues.

And no I haven't been over the Rockies but I have been in the N. Ga mountains. No issues strong uphill/downhill.

Are there really 14% grades there?

eeekkk

Thanks

Dave

Payload.

Ignore tow capacity and look up the payload of the truck you want. Chances are it will "not" tow a 10,000 pound trailer because the tongue weight will be to much for it.

Interesting. Do those Airstreams typically have light tongues? From what I can tell the Excella is ~8300 with a 760lb tongue weight and the Classic 10,000 GVWR has a tongue weight of 805? Seems light given the weight. Either way this is usually were you run into problems because the tongue weight gets subtracted from the payload, along with anything else you put in the truck. Nice trailers though.

^nailed it. In most instances, payload will be your limiting factor when it comes to 1/2 tons. Figure out the tongue weight, and then add that to all your passengers and cargo. If you have a family of 4-5 + luggage, coolers, other gear etc., you will be creeping up on your payload capacity quickly..
