Default Tow packages

I know I don’t have max tow, just trying to figure out if mine is factory. Hitch tucks up under the bumper pretty well, and the 4 pin / 7 pin connectors are part of the plastic upper bumper mounted next to the license plate. Does that come with the factory package? I’ve seen other trucks without the connectors there.

Thanks.

Buying a 2022 Airstream flying cloud 23FB and just trying to make sure it’s fine to tow. From what I can tell, my truck, a 2017 2.7 EB, 4x4, super cab with the 3:55 rear can tow 7500#, which is plenty for this Airstream.

It might be "factory" but if you want to know exactly what your truck was set up with, just head on over to your local Ford Dealer and ask them to print your truck's build sheet. You'll just need to bring them the VIN. That's how I found out for CERTAIN that my 2017 3.5EB was factory set up with Max Tow. Your build sheet should show what tow package (if any) was installed.

Yes, for your model year a factory installed hitch would come with a 7 pin connector. Trucks without a factory hitch only had a 4 pin. But as stated above, anything could've been added to the truck after purchase!

I did up the below a couple of months ago for a similar question. I just had to tweak it a bit for a 2017.

The limitation you'll probably encounter is maxing out the truck payload. You'll need a weight distributing hitch for a trailer weight exceeding 5,000# or tongue weight exceeding 500#.

There's a calculator at the link below. It will give you the max truck payload, and max trailer weight, and max tongue weight, and max combined weight of truck and trailer. And you can play around with different weights and placements to use all of the potential towing capability that the truck has.

https://www.f150forum.com/attachment...ucks-stock.pdf

You will need the data from document at the link below - look for your truck on page 2 and get the GCWR and max trailer weight for your truck. This data is required for the above calculator.

https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/content...50_r3_Nov8.pdf

You will also need to reference the door stickers. On one sticker you'll get the GVWR and on the other sticker you'll get the max payload weight. These values are also required by the calculator.

Check to make sure the mounted tires agree with the rating on the door sticker and add pressure when towing. Use a weight distributing hitch over 500/5000.

Hopefully that helps.
