Default Tow hooks - how do you use them?

has anyone here used their front tow hooks? Can you use the dring connectors with them or are you just supposed to use a hook?

I've never used these but am looking to get some hooks/drings and tow straps for winter.

I Would look for a 10' 10000# rated tow strap with eyelet ends. If someone has a winch to pull you they can attach their hook to the strap. You don't need those shackles.

Those should work, and a solid connection is usually better than a himh that can fall off if tension drops.

Given that the hills have rounded edges, though, I'd be more inclined to use a soft shackle and a proper dynamic recovery line, not a tow strap, if the primary use case is recovering vehicles from ditches versus towing them down the street after recovering then.

Nice chrome hooks used with anything other than a strap will rust.

Never used mine in 5 years.

On the back I use the Smittybilt 29312B Receiver Hitch D-Ring with 3/4-Inch Shackle for 2-Inch Receivers.

I carry one with me to pull FWD cars. A number of the tow hooks that FWD cars come with are compatible with those shackles (I've only found one car where my shackle didn't fit in their tow hook).

I loop the recovery strap through my chrome hooks and hook the other eyelet end to the shackle, which is also obviously attached to their car/tow hook.

Agreed on the use of those on the chrome hooks on our trucks (and the black ones too, I would guess) -- if you use 'em, the finish will chip off on the tow hook and they will rust.

This is just something to keep in the truck if needed. Both in case I get stuck or need to help someone else that got stuck. I think I'll get the Rhino 30' strap and that d-ring I listed above seems to be the only one made in USA. For the hook end on my truck I would plan on looping the tow strap through itself it is the other end I want to make sure I can accommodate. For the rear I was going to get one of those tri ball receivers with the hook too.

A 3/4" shackle is rated at 5 ton. What are your Rhino ones good for? These are the same except made for industrial rigging not packaged for the consumer.

2" x 20' eyelet strap is rated at 6400# straight pull 12800# basket pull (folded in half).
This was the first thing I came across, you may be able to do better.

OK just ordered a 30' (30k+ lb rating) strap, d-ring trailer receiver, tri-ball receiver with hook and a cheapy tow strap with builtin hooks and a 4 pack of hitch pins. This is a "buy once" and have when you need it purchase.
