You also need to consider a few things with touch up colors. It's a different material. It's laquer or acrylic. Your vehicle is water based. That will invoke a difference. Also, you are brushing on a color intended to be sprayed.

Also you need to consider reflectance. What that means is, what color was the chip you touched up over? White? Grey? When I paint j7, I seal it with a really dark grey. Nearly black. Because if I go over a medium grey or anything lighter, the color will be too light.

Or get Dr color chip. Seems legit

My autobody supplier told me the paint codes are now embedded into the VIN number and ar no longer on the door sticker.

Anyway...I also discovered that just because Ford calls the paint a certain name, there could be variations of shades within that named colour.
Case in point, I went to get some paint mixed up for my truck...Oxford White...the paint tech said there were 4 variations of Oxford white.

We went to my truck and did a color swatch match and yup, there were 4!

Using the color match, we mixed up a spray can of perfectly matching Oxford white paint.

My advice is go through a paint supply store.
Lies 😆. It's still on the door sticker

Most colors have countless variants. J7 magnetic the ops color has about 6 official variants. And 30 or so field formulas in the system I use. PPG.

Yz your color has 2 official. And 10 field formulas in our system.

Have you tried this personally? I have a chip on my bedside that I'd like to address, but feel like it's too big for a touch up paint pen. This looks like a better option but curious if you have any firsthand experience.

Thanks all for the advice. There's a local body shop in town I have a good relationship with, I'll ask them if they can
mix up a pint for me, if not, I'll try Dr. Colorchip.

Yes. I have been using the system for almost 10 years.

Thank you for the recommendation. I am in need of YZ Oxford White touch up, and the amazon reviews for the Ford and Dupli-color (looks like Dupli-color makes both) are unanimously horrible in terms of matching.

I ordered the Dr Color kit with squeegee and will see how well it matches.

Before I purchased, I double checked the paint code on the door sticker and confirmed the code.
When I got home and applied the paint on a couple small rock chips on my hood, I immediately saw the paint was much lighter.
I let the paint dry, but it was still very light. Thinking there was an error in the paint mix, I exchanged it for a
new container. Same result.

I've never had any problem with Fords touch up paint in the past, so why is this happening and what can I do
(short of going to a body shop and having them custom mix a color) to get the correct color match?
That happens with a Metallic paint, however my paint matched very well with my 2016 that was Magnetic Grey.

Does Dr. Color chips system work long term? is there no clearcoat needed?

Thanks,
