Default Torque Curves

Looked at some dyno torque curves from 5 Star Tuning and surprised that the 2.7L has a torque curve just as good, and with a torque peak being the same, as the 3.5L Ecoboost. The 3.5L Ecoboost's torque curve extends out a bit further letting it make about 7 Hp more at the same 5200 rpms.

Looks like Ford may have under rated this engine as it may be the engine to replace the current 3.5L ecoboost when the new 3.5L ecoboost used in the Lincoln Navigator goes into the 2017 F150.s

Low rpm torque curve is better on the 2015/16 5.0 compared to the older 2011 - 2014 F150 5.0L as well.

5.0L also has extended torque as it's horsepower shows about 22 horsepower more than the 3.5L Ecoboost. The 3.5L Ecoboost shows about 7 horsepower more than the 2.7L Ecoboost as well.

Looks like the 2.7L is the under rated motor here, but with it's small size, it most likely produces a lot of heat towing, and why it's tow rating is so low.

To bad for the stop/start forced functioning of the motor, wonder how long before that starter burns out.

Start stop is the same technology as has been used with the hybrids for years. I'd say it's pretty well tested.

Yeh, but seriously how many people buy hybrids. I see them once in a great while. Maybe if you live in 'tree hugger' ally, you'd see more of them but they're a rare breed none the less.

Besides, if a starter wore out and needed replacement, the owner probably wouldn't mind next to the huge cost of the battery pack replacement.

The ecoboost in the Navigator is not the same one going in the f150 for 2017. The navigator uses a different tune of the existing motor, whereas the 2017 will have an almost entirely reworked motor.

Also, for 2017 all ecoboosts will have autostart/stop.

Yeah, there aren't many hybrids on the road.

Fortunately you can shut that feature off.

True but you can accomplish the same thing with a paper clip or switch for several hundred $ less

You would definitely be correct bubbabud, but then again, wouldn't the extra horsepower and torque be worth splurging a little bit?

The tuner would run at $600 if anyone is interested

There used to be tons of hybrids around here, now it's tons of electric cars. I don't think you need to be a tree hugger to think we can do better for the planet.
