Default tonneau covers and mpg's

im interested in purchasing a tonneau cover ive been doing some research on here regarding them.. i really like the hard covers that bakflip makes but im not sure if i can justify spending $700+ on a bed cover when ny truck is only a lease..even though i could most like see myself purchasing it at the end enless i decide to go for a raptor next.. my question is does tossing on a tonneau help increase mpg's? i havent seen anyone mention anything about it but i could imagine it probably does..and are there any covers that someone could recommend that are just like the hard bakflips but a little more wallet friendly? i was looking into the extangs as well

pretty sure it doesn't, or if it does, it's negligible...
unlike the gun-holding, pipe-smoking farmer might want you to think, an open box with the tailgate up is actually not all that bad for mileage

The increase in MPG is not even measurable. Mythbusters did this test.

Also figure too, if youre concerned about spending money on a leased truck, you could probably resell the tonneau cover for about 1/2 what you paid for it when you turn your truck back in.

good point! i did think about this but also thought about it being possibly a pain to find a buyer being that i habe been trying to find a used cover for a 6.5' bed and there is really nothing out there!

Depending on the bed size, would the cover not work on the Raptor if you switched to that instead of keeping this one?

Only issue I could see outside the size and fit is the mounting the hardware. I had a canvas topper on my current truck, but the clamps have corroded so there's no getting them off without cutting. Steel bolts, aluminum clamps. It's been 9 years of course, but they've been like that for many years. So what would they be like at the end of the lease, and could they be easily replaced if needed?

My cousin went to school for aeronautical engineering and they actually performed wind tunnel testing on this very subject. They found full camper shells, tonneau covers, and the tailgate down produced the least amount of wind resistance (in that order). What it would translate into real world savings, I have no idea?

What exactly are you saying here? I've read studies that showed tailgate down, or removed, had highest overall drag. A camper shell with a radically sloped rear window had the least. But I don't recall a tonneau data point.
