Question Tire Recommendations?

I am looking for recommendations on what tire I should get and what other people have and like.
Currently have the OEM Goodyear Wranglers - They are ok but are wearing and I want a little higher quality tire and one with a little more "grip".

Truck - 2016 5.0 SCREW XLT
Wheels - Chrome package 275/65R/18

I’m looking for something that is quiet on the road as we take road trip very often in the truck. But I also want something that will be good in the snow and some very light "off roading" (this is more of driving in fields and some rolling grass hills). I do have a travel trailer I tow about 1-2 times a month ~100miles GVWR of 5000lbs. Tire cost I would like to be around or below the $250ea.

I am currently looking at the Michelin Defender LTX M/S but a little worried that these will not be enough in the snow/"off road" even though they are M/S tire.

Curious as to what everyone else is running and how they like them.

Lots of discussion and feedback on the forum

I had the LTX M/S2 on my big 4x4 SUV for several years, including some heavy snowstorms in Michigan. They were acceptable, but if I lived up there full time I would have been okay with a more aggressive all terrain or winter tire.

Lots of guys go up to an all terrain LT tire, which is bigger, heavier, and tougher but costs some gas mileage with the extra weight. I have BFG KO2 now and next up will be Falken Wildpeak AT3W which I expect from reports and their three peak snowflake symbol will be better in snow and ice

Your main decision is P rated tire or go up to an LT all terrain. With a good LT tire noise won't be an issue and they'll handle extra weight of a trailer great, it's the extra weight and gas mileage hit that's probably the biggest negative

IMO, it doesn't get any quieter than the LTX M/S or even the LTX AT2. These are premium comfort tires and that is their best quality. That's not to say they don't handle other areas well, just that ride quality and noise level are their best features. Both tires seem to get very good reviews. I've ran the LTX AT2 and found that while it's not the most aggressive looking A/T tire, it's a great all-around tire.

If you want to step into another bracket, I'd suggest you take a look at the Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I say another bracket because it's an aggressive A/T tire...much more aggressive than either of the Michelins. But it's also more of an upper middle class tire whereas I would consider the Michelins top tier. I'm currently running the Falkens and love them. Very smooth and for such an aggressive tire I'm amazed at how quiet they are. As quiet as the Michelins? No, probably not, but very close and I'm sensitive to road noise. Now that may change when I get some miles on them. We shall see.

Good luck.

Like somebody said, your main decision is if you want a P or LT tire. And notice I said 'want', and not need, since with an F-150, you don't really need any LT tire. The only trucks that come with LT tires are the ones equipped with the HDPP (heavy duty payload package), and you'd only need them if you max out those ratings. LT tires weigh a crapload more than Ps (about 26 lb per tire), and that's unsprung weight, which significantly affects ride, braking, acceleration, and basically every performance measure. The All-Terrain P tires my FX-4 truck came with are actually really good, but I plan to replace them with the lightest A-T tires, which are the Continental Terrain Contact AT. By the way, the stock Hankooks are the 2nd lightest AT tire. Hope this helps.

I will admit to being a Michelin snob.

All but one of my vehicles currently has Michelin rubber. The vehicle that currently doesn't is my 2016 F150 Platinum. When I purchased that truck, it had PATHFINDER AT's installed on it. I was, and honestly still am, impressed with that PATHFINDER AT's. PATHFINDERS are the house brand currently sold by Discount Tire. If I'm not mistaken I think PATHFINDERS are manufactured by KUMHO. For what they are, they seem to be pretty decent tires. They're not in the league of really good all terrain tires like KO2's but, then again, they don't cost nearly as much as KO2's. They have decent traction in dirt and mud and are reasonably quiet.

I have only seen it on Tire Rack, but they have a Falken Wild Peaks A/T3W A.
Notice the A at the end, in 275/65r18, that is a C rated tire, not a P.
Anyone tried it?

Default LTX at2

I just bought a set of Michelin LTX at2s. I like them very much. Nice ride, low noise, and enough tread for light off-road.... dirt roads and grass. On road they are very comfy and quiet!

looks pretty good on the truck!!

Anyone have Michelin Defender LTX M/S that put over 40k on them?
Are they still quiet?
Still good traction in water and mud?
