Default Tire question...weight of tire

yes I am going to be that guy. Believe me i have been reading for days and hundreds of threads. So here goes. Like most others I'm looking at a 2 inch level and want to increase my tire size but also keep an eye on MPG.

I have a 2020 Supercab, 2.7, 3.73 ( extra payload package) 275/65/18 Wrangler street tires. I want a 2" level and go to a 275/70/18 which from what I can tell is a 33 inch tire, maybe a tad more.

I didn't buy a 2.7 so I could throw my MPG out the window but I also know i have to give up something to get something.
I pretty much have to go to an LT tire which is ok cause I will be putting a camper in the back the odd time and some off roading. What is the biggest factor in mpg loss? The bigger diameter tires, weight of the tire, width or the lift? My gut tells me unsprung weight is the biggest killer. So if I concentrate on the lightest tire that I want would that be the best bet? And I would like to have the three mountain snow peak for snow as well.

Here is what I have researched so far for a 275/70/18 all LT tires

General Grabber 61 lbs
Cooper Discoverer AT3 56 lbs
BFG KO2 57 lbs
Goodyear Wrangler Trail AT ( forgot exactly which one) 53 lbs
Yokohama Geolander AT 55lbs
Firestone Destination X/T 49 lbs
Toyo Open Country AT3 53 lbs
Goodyear Duratrac 55lbs
Falken Wildpeak AT3 61 lbs
Nitto Terra Grappler G2 52.2 lbs
Nitto Ridge Grappler 58.5 lbs
Cooper Discoverer XLT 57 lbs

I was looking at the Falkens until I saw the weight, now i think they are out.

Sorry for yet another tire post but at least it's somewhat productive as there is some data there for tire weights if anyone is interested.

I am in the same boat as you but I am not going LT
On your list I would choose Open Country AT III

Its a cool looking AT tire that is really light weight compared to its rivals

If I wanted a non AT the Cooper Disco AT3 are rated really high on Tire Racks internal testing

I'm leaning that way as well since they seem to be the lightest of the AT tires.

I have no choice on the LT, not a single manufacturer makes a P series in the size i am looking for

Yeah my borther has an 11th gen with 18s
I was really surpirzed to see that going up in diameter the only options were LT

He got P rated Toyo OC ATIII in the OEM size because of this, they sure look nice

I found one tire in a 275/70R18 that is P-metric, the General Grabber APT, and it's only 41.7lbs and $191.

Grabber APT is snow rated and General is a good company owned by Continental
I think for the weight savings its worth it but... "P275/70R18 116S SL Not Rated For Severe Snow"
https://generaltire.com/sites/defaul...Spec_Pages.pdf
see the spec sheet

I know this is important because in CA its required in some places to drive in the winter

I noticed about a 12-15% decrease in mileage with 275/70/18 KO2s over the stock 275/65/18 goodyears.

I just went with the Toyo OC AT3 And am extremely happy with them! It was a hard decision for me. I had a list of 4 or 5 and I just came from the Ridge Grappler. I liked the tread design and the lighter weight compared to most of their competitors. I’ve only got 1k miles on the, so far but so far I’d rate them a 10 out of 10. Only thing now is to see how long they last. I will say I couldn’t kill the Ridge Grapplers! I had 67K on them when I traded them in and still had good tread on them. I rotate my tires every oil change which for me is 5-6k. Good luck with your decision.
