Default Time For Brakes

So noticed some squeaking from the front brakes when I pulled out of the driveway this AM. I am at 40k in my 2015, bought it used but I am sure its the original pads and rotors so I guess its about time.

Question is do I just go OEM Ford pads and rotors or do I upgrade? We tow about 7,000lb's in boat during the weekends all summer. The trailer has surge brakes, but I wouldn't mind having a bit more stopping power in the truck. Seems like the PowerStop kit is pretty well reviewed, anyone running it? Any feedback? Thanks.

I'm going thru this process now and not sure which pads my truck has, I bought it used, but likely OEM. I went with Akebono Pro ACT 1414 for pads and Centric rotors from TireRack.com. I can't give a review yet, as I just placed the order.

But I've had Akebono's on my Mercedes and BMW X5 before and they were simply amazing. No brake dust, no squeal, no issues. Brakes worked the same or slightly better than the OEM pads before.

The other pads I considered where the Centric 105.17700 Posi-Quiet Premium pads, but no 2 day shipping on Amazon (other sellers have stock, but Amazon didn't right now) so went with the Akebono's.

Are these larger rotors than stock? I'm looking for some as well. I'm turning 35s so when towing, stops can be a struggle at times. I've thought about putting the super duty rotors, calipers and pads on, but I doubt they'd work on my axles.

If you want a brake upgrade, its going to be costly.

Any of the other kits that have slotted rotors and pads won't really help since it's still the same size rotors on there. There is really a minimal difference between the different pads out there, some make more dust than others, but there isn't much difference in stopping power.

Squeaking does not necessarly mean your brakes need changing and believe it or not, 40k is actually pretty low in some instances for a brake change. Not syaing you can't change them to have piece of mind, but I would shine a light in there and conifrm what kind of pad you have left before I changed them.

I'd go to the Wilwoods before dropping that kind of coin... they're less expensive and have bigger rotors (15/14.25 vs 13.6/14.17). Although you do have to go to 20" wheels to fit them.

In a 2015 with 35,000 I noticed braking issues, and dealership said everything is fine. 5,000 miles and a few months later dealership said you need new front brakes as the right is worn out. They said the slide pins were sticking and needed lubing. No ****, that's what they should have look for a few months back when I told them it pulls the right especially when the brakes get used. My point is make sure your slide pins aren't sticking causing brake drag, and a lot of brake dust that can add to noise.

i've got the powerstop kit. no complaints - breaking in pads i had a small shudder until bedded, but been flawless since. they bite well with my 34's.
