Default things can change so fast

Over Memorial Day weekend the traffic came to a stop on the highway that is normally wide open. I left a big gap between me and the cars in front. Then I heard the brakes screeching. I was able to drive forward about 30 feet but couldn't stop the crash. Only helped reduce the damages and hopefully injuries. He left about 100 feet of skid marks. Thank goodness no one injured except the car passenger getting a bruise on her arm.
Estimate is $1,100 for my truck. The car was not driveable with the radiator ripped open, and I'm guessing totaled because of the age. His bumper went under my hitch and probably saved me from getting too much damage.

Ouch! Glad you are okay, and glad the driver that hit you is alright as well. Truck definitely took a beating and I suspect once they get under there things will add up quickly, but that is the insurance companies problem.

Hope you get back to 100% quickly!

Great everyone walked away with no serious injuries.
Cell phone use?
The rear ender learned a valuable lesson that day unfortunately your truck had to be involved in that lesson.

My hitch fitted with a tow hook saved my Jeep from serious damage on two different occasions.
On one occasion the rear ender's car looked similar to the one in the pic.... my Jeep's damage? Just a couple small bumper scratches.

The other occasion was less severe on a slippery snowy road where the rear ender's car slid into by Jeep..
The rear ender's front bumper got tow hook dented with some damage to the front grill. No damage to my Jeep except scratches on my tow hook.

Car was likely totaled yes, even a 2019 would be totaled with that damage esp if airbags deployed.

No, he said they were looking out the side window at the lake. They were on their way to go swimming there. That's why traffic was stopped too. People pulling off the road to get a spot by the lake. Traffic normally runs about 65 through that area.

Now's the time to consider an aftermarket bumper!

Now's the time to pick up the insurance payout and buy a nearly free OEM takeoff bumper from someone buying an aftermarket bumper
