I second the Fold-A-Cover G4. It is installed on my truck. I had one about 15 years ago on a different brand truck. The locking and operating mechanisms have been improved. The tailgate can be opened without lifting the back section; however, it does need to be lifted to shut it. As long as the tailgate locks, you should be good for the inexperienced thief.

It is a 4 section cover. The front section folds back to access the first 18" of the bed. The back three sections fold up on top of the front section. It is permanently attached to the bed between the first and second sections.

Default Cheap lock improvement to Trifold

Been reading threads on the security of tri-fold covers. Many claim that a hanger or piece of metal can be inserted to push or pull the cord. Yes, that does work. I have cut a piece of meshed ground cover which is water proof and glued it to the outside of the place where the cables are located. It hangs down about 3-4 inches below the cable. This should make it a little harder for the hanger idea to be able to grab or push the cable release by deflecting it but it still is easy to grab with your hands if the bed is lowered. So far so good and really cheap as I had the items on hand.

I have had the bak flip and since day one I thought it was vulnerable.
I keep my tools under the rear seat with jackets thrown over them to hide them. I just keep parts and hardware and stuff in the bed now. Nothing I would cry over.
I used Forscan to activate Tailgate ajar and ran a wire and added tiny magnetic switches to the bak flip and to the tailgate.
Now if someone forces it open I get an alert on my phone.

Have you ever seen what a crowbar can do to a 'secure' tonneau cover? I have the cheap OEM Ford soft tonneau that can be sliced open with a knife. I would rather have that than a crowbar damaged and dented tailgate or fender while keeping absolutely nothing of value in the bad.

This is what a crowbar can do to a backflip X4 revolver top. You can stand on this kind too. I’ve since added a strip across the back where the cable pull is to deter a coat hanger. They did set off the alarm but I was out on the water fishing when I heard it.

Surprised nobody mentioned Diamondback yet

Granted it's not a trifold and has its own drawbacks (cost, weight, 'fixed' center portion, can't just fold/roll it up on the spot, etc), but in terms of keywords tonneau and secure, it's pretty much the only one. More secure in the bed under a locked Diamondback than locked in the cab.

It was fortunate the alarm scared them off, 2 more minutes the trifold would have looked like an opened tuna can
