Taking apart headlights - Blacking out/Retrofit/Switchback install

When I get my diode dynamics LED's I'll be doing mine, I'll do a bit of a write up so people can see how hard it is. I've never done a Ford truck, but my friend has done many and he said the permaseal softens up a bit with heat. By the sounds of it my Sierra was more difficult because the permaseal they used was rock hard, it didn't soften up at all. Hopefully Ford hasn't switched to the same stuff.

Yes, but thanks for clarifying. I'm comparing $$$ to $$$. I haven't decided which route to go. The lighting forum has been an eye opener for a newbie to this type of mod. TRS actually had some decent sales this past weekend but I didn't pull trigger because I know I need more education. Honestly, for 1800 I'd rather have the boss 302, tuner, and Blackhawk from stage3, but I do love the way the retrofitted headlamps look. Thanks again for smart answers to dumb questions.
I've been telling guys who aren't quite sure to go retrofit projectors. One factor like you mentioned, the price is expensive. Like other members are saying HID's will be brighter. One other thing which why I would go the HID retrofit, even though there is warranty on the LED headlights from RR, what if they burn out or burn out after warranty is done. At least with HIDs you can replace the burnt out bulb or ballast.
Easiest projectors to install are the Mini H1's to have the best light output with a little bit harder to install would be the D2S 3.0's.
Or do what I did with my 2014 Escape and it was a lot of hacking. Acura TL projectors for the lows, and mini H1's for the high's, but I leveled the highs to the same height as the lows. I had quads on all the time.

Well i got around to installing my switchbacks today. I was really looking forward to blacking out the chrome, but ultimately in the end I was defeated by these suckers. The shrouds around the LED headlights are very hard to remove and I didn't want to break anything, I could have taped over the lenses, but I would have risked overspray ending up getting on the lenses. Also the chrome around the led pipe is all one piece. The clear pieces are not removable and they would need to be taped as well. Again risking over spray getting on the clear lens. I wasn't willing to risk it. I can do a write up on baking the headlights and getting them apart as well as installing diode dynamics switchback boards.
Here's a picture of the back side of the chrome shroud.
