Tailgate weight w/wo step?
Only getting search results for tailgate weight capacity.
Does anyone know how much the tailgate step adds in weight to the tailgate?
I’m in and out of my tailgate a bunch and while I don't find it to be heavy, it is considerably heavier than some co-workers’ Chevy gates. Considering swapping my gate out as I hardly ever use the step despite the 6” lift. I can still swing my leg up onto the gate and 1-legged squat myself into the bed and its much quicker. That may change as I age however. Anyway, anyone know the weight difference?

I don't know in lbs, but I can tell you it's a major difference... one person can easily lift & move the stepless gate. Also, if you swap to a tailgate without the step, you will need to also change out the left bracket - they are different between the two tailgates.

My bad I wasn’t clear. I’m not concerned about actually swapping it out and being able to lift it for the swap. I just find the tailgate /w step to be slightly annoying when opening/closing it many times a day. Just curious how much more pleasant the step-less gate might be.

Oh...gotcha! I had both, & obviously the lighter gate is easier to lift, but the one with the step has the torsion bar aiding in it's lifting. I couldn't tell a significant difference between the two when closing honestly...
Edit: I did install the factory assist shock...

Have you tried this?
I put it on my non assisted tailgate step tailgate and it makes a world of difference. Just open it up and let go.

I had a 15 Silverado, and now have a 19 Limited with the step. I honestly think the Ford tailgate is a SLIGHT bit easier to close than the Chevy. I am in my mid 70s, so weight is a factor. Just my option.

Do you have the assisted tailgate? I'm guessing not based on this post.

I’m talking about lifting it back up to closed position.

Ummm...the tailgate on my truck is stupid easy to lift. Easier than even the Ranger I owned.
My SD was difficult. Maybe something else is wrong with yours?
