My first guess when reading through this post was that the tailgate was removed for the bodywork and the connector wasn't reconnected. Glad you found the problem. BTW, when you remove the tailgate for any reason, be sure to disconnect that wire BEFORE you find yourself with a tailgate in hand and a wire still holding it! Makes you say bad words!!
