For those that have a tailgate step, you might find this helpful. For the most part I am a big fan of the step, but from day one I thought the plastic cover got caught on shoes and boots too easily when stepping down from the bed. I thought the plastic needed to be trimmed about an 1/8" back to prevent boot lugs from catching it. I had thought the only way I could make this cut look factory was with a router. Since it was so hot today and the plastic was so pliable, I decided to pop the cover off and have a look at it. The back side just so happens to have an 1/8" rib along the edge. I carefully scored a line with a sharp utility knife and proceeded to make a few more passes. Since it was so hot it cut easily and is perfectly straight! Before I put the cover back on, I cleaned the steel and back side of the cover and applied 3m adhesive tape in the event removing the rib contributed to warping (it was warping a little before I cut it). This pulls the cover tighter to the steel than before I started. Results are attached.
Shoes and boots don't get caught now!

Nice! I have already ruined 2 of these loading my snowmobile in the bed of my truck. I really didn't want the tailgate step but it was the only one on the lot with the other options I wanted. I might have to try and copy you.
