Default Tailgate Step Latch

Hello,
I just purchased a new to me 2016 Lariat CrewCab 4x4 5.0. So far love the truck, definite upgrade from my '08. I bought it used, so there are some imperfections that I need to work thru. One is it has the pull out tailgate step in it. Problem is the latch to keep it inside is broke, so the top of the tail gate pops up. The little lever that is supposed to move when you push the square button on the top to pop it out it broke off. I contacted the dealer in town and they don't have a p/n or sell just the latch, you have to buy the entire step assembly...$900+ later. Wondering if anyone else has this issue as well and fixed it themselves? I'm hoping see if I can take the latch apart and make new lever piece...but not sure what it looks like. Might have to stop by the dealer and look at one of the trucks on the lot to see what it's supposed to look like. Thought I'd ask if if there was another fix before I tear into it. Thanks!

Did the latch break off, or just the plastic button? No, you can't get the parts without purchasing the whole step FROM FORD.
Go to Amazon Go to Amazon
for cheap knock-offs of just the plastic parts.

The actual metal hook/lever is broken in the latch assembly.

I'd drill out those two rivets, remove the bolts and pull the latch assembly to see if I could make a new latch bracket, or re-attach it if whatever holds it in position is what broke.

I have the same problem. Did you find a latch hook or make one?

Default Part number

FL3Z-9943170-D

Ford has a stupid name for the part so you can never find this unless you go through other random replacement parts for sale that better identify what it is
