Default Tailgate step cover

2020 Lariat. When I got this used truck I noticed that the cover for the tailgate step is loose such that I have to push it back down when I put the tailgate up after every time I deploy it. It's a bit annoying, but so far I haven't lost it. But, when the time comes, and it will, that I have to have the tailgate down to haul something, I don't want to lose it.
While I was shopping around for a truck, before I found this one, I noticed a number of F150s that had that piece missing or loose, so I would assume my situation is not a one off.
How have you dealt with this? Glue it back on some way? Just replace it? Or just keep a stock of spare covers? Is there a better aftermarket alternative?

Four black self tapping sheet metal screws have been working for over a year now for me.

Default Tailgate

I have replaced mine twice. Now I don't have anything in there because it broke again. Very poor design by Ford, although now Chevrolet is selling trucks based on the design of their tailgate. You can get a replacement it in Amazon for like $30. I have a 2016 F-150.
