Default Tailgate Step Assist Problem

I have a 16 Lariat. Last week the tailgate step assist handle came off. I went to my local dealer and he said it would be $80. I told him "that's ridiculous", then he said "I'm sorry I was looking at the wrong part, you need to buy the whole assembly for $260". The yellow piece is so flush you cannot put in a nut and bolt. My best guess solution is crazy glue? Thoughts and thanks in advance!

Highway robbery. It was a $90 option on my truck. I'd try JB Weld.

Some kind of adhesive will resolve your issue. Just make sure it is compatible with metal and plastic.

....looks like an easy fix...SET Screw!...find an appropriate diameter(might be metric)..and drill through hole at same size into plastic top piece...then tap metal hole for appropriate sized set screw(into plastic for best effect)...screw in set screw flush...maybe use very small amount of "Blue" threadlocker....et voila!...flush locked plastique!..repeat on other side just for giggles(add new hole if none exists)..or not....ymmv, but fix will last longer than plastic top...Happy Trails!(and fixes!).......Ol' Rattler rattlin' on, now.....
