Default Tailgate release and keys

2016 Lariat SCREW 502.

I guess I had always assumed that if the four front doors are locked, the tailgate is locked. If I leave my keys in the truck and lock with the keypad, all four doors are locked and do NOT open when I grab the handles...BUT, I am just now discovering (may be never tried this for last 3 years), then when the keys are in the truck and truck is locked, the button at the tailgate unlocks the tailgate at times... I searched for any other threads on this but did not find any... if there is one I missed, please point me in the right direction.

If I want the tailgate to be secure do I need to take my keys with me? or is there something else going on here?

Take the key out of the truck and not on you, and try the tailgate to see if it still opens.

If you leave the fob/keys in the truck and lock the doors with the door pad the tailgate should be locked, remain locked.

Period.

There is a problem with the truck if the tailgate opens under this scenario unless the other fob is in your pocket or within a few feet of the tailgate.

I am going to try all scenarios today... there should be nothing that was touched in the tailgate for the door lock recall, right?
