Default Tailgate Radio

One of my quarantine projects, lol. We spend a lot of time at the drive-on beach over the summer, and got tired of relying on the little battery powered speaker that would more than not be dead whenever I went to use it. An earlier quarantine project was upgrading the amplifier and speakers on the boat, so I ended up having leftover marine speakers and a micro marine-rated amp, so decided to put it to use in the truck.

Pulled 8ga wire from the battery into the cargo area, and ran ground down to a muffler hanger bolt on the frame. Switch on panel on the left activates a relay which sends +12V to the amp, and powers up the cigarette lighter, USB ports, bluetooth receiver, and a voltmeter so I can keep an eye on the battery level. Didn't really make any plans, just made it up in my head as I went along, and it surprisingly sounds great. Will get quite loud if I want it to and still clear without distortion. Will be fun for the beach, tailgating (whenever sports are back). Quick connects on the supply cables let me remove it in a few minutes should I need the whole space, but its mounted up high enough for my totes to slide underneath.

Before I even scrolled to the second picture I thought to myself "those speakers had to come out of a Yamaha boat." They look exactly like the Polk speakers in my 212 Limited S. Sure enough next picture showed your boat. Nice job on the build.

I thought that I was going to see a tailgate with speakers in it.

If only that had some silver stars on it, instead of all those birds...

Very cool! Like that it fits under the bed cover as well, even though the setup is marine grade

Well done! Very cool project
