Default Tailgate question

This "bracket" on the right side of the tailgate does not seem to do anything...wondering why it is there.

This was talked about before and I think we decided it's to keep the gate from lifting off the hinge pin when using the step. Do you have the step?

I have the step, but a bracket similar to this was on tailgates long before the step option existed.

Never could find out what they do.

I don't remember ever seeing it on my old trucks,, but my last one was a 2002.

Looked at mine again,, he!! I'm at a lost also.. Maybe to make sure you don't hit the sides of the gate/truck when removing gate?

it's so the tailgate won't be able to slide from side to side in the up position and locked so it doesn't get stolen

I think that is the purpose...stops the tailgate from moving side to side and coming out of socket.

I don't think the bracket has anything to do with the step option...I am sure it existed before the step.
