Default Tailgate Mirror - Yep, It Works....

We have a new vendor here that invented and sells a mirror device that attaches with suction cups to your tailgate. He claims the mirror allows you to use the back-up camera while the tailgate is down.

I was hauling some long lumber last week with the tailgate down. I hate to look down at the stupid back-up camera and see the asphalt. And yes, that camera has spoiled me. I finally admitted that I need one.

His username is @Tailgate Mirror and he's offering a special on Amazon right now, so I ordered one.

Here is his vendor page link...
https://www.f150forum.com/f37/do-you...e-down-445229/

It arrived today. I did a quick install and it works very well. It has heavy duty suction cups. I attached some pics below on my 2016 RCSB. I need to fine tune it and I will when I actually have to use it. I see it as cheap insurance. No one likes backing into stuff, especially when backing up my driveway at night.

Nice kit.

On the truck.

Close up.

Tailgate down, view from the cockpit.

Installed and tailgate in the down position.

IMO a backup camera is a cool luxury and all, but I also own 3 other work trucks without backup cameras and have been backing up without the aid of cameras for more than a few decades and managed to do so without backing into anything (yet). I couldn't imagine actually admitting that I couldn't back up an open pickup truck because the tailgate was down in spite of having THREE mirrors at my disposal and nothing obstructing the line of sight from any of them. Heck, most of my trucks have enclosed or obstructed beds so I only have side mirrors.

All of these gadgets might seem helpful but they also remove the need for any skill or knowledge whatsoever in order to be able to drive a car. They also remove any need for a driver to think. Over time, driving skills will get worse due to all these driving aids, not better. If you need to get out of your truck to put this on your tailgate then just go ahead and throw your license on the ground because you don't deserve to have it any more.

If this post gets deleted for not agreeing with your paid promo for a paying vendor, I fully understand.

Well, aren't you Mr. Personality. If you disagree with need for the "cool luxury" camera you don't have to act like a jerk with personal insults. And yea, consider that your warning.

I thought the guy was pretty smart coming up with this idea. That's why I bought it. Yea, I bought it. It wasn't a gift and I'm not being "paid" to do a promo. I'm just a good-ole-boy (with poor night vision) that likes "cool luxury" stuff.

You have heard of self-driving cars? They are actually in use today. I am glad you are the most skilled driver on the forum, but if a device aids in safely performing a task in your vehicle, then thats great by me. FYI, you have to have knowledge to be able to drive a car, thats what drivers license exams are for.........

Hmmm...when the gate is down, it's no longer blocking your vision down the middle, thus you can see behind you(using your rearview mirror) better than when it's up(camera not withstanding).
Having said that, now I'm prolly gonna go backup tomorrow with my gate down, and smash into something

You dont have vision if you have a snowmobile or 4 wheeler in the bed. Who would ride around with the tailgate down and nothing in the back? This is a cool idea.

My kids live out of state and we sometimes help them move and the bed of the truck is FULL of junk. All you have are the side mirrors then.

Either way, contrary to what some think, I was driving big trucks when most of you were in kindergarten. It ain't like I don't know what a mirror is or what they are for.

My deal is that I have come to love that "luxury camera" when backing at night. I'm old, half blind and have dark windows. It does make life easier. This guy's stick on mirror should add to that, if I ever need it.

Bashing the "luxury camera" would be like me an XL owner, bashing a Lariat owner, cause they are soft and shoulda bought a Cadillac. I don't do that.
