Same Chevy bar, just different connector and better price. But as you can see, the Ford one is much bigger. Chevy apparently doesn't make a pigtail for their connector on their light and requires a whole harness replacement. Im cutting the plug off and adding a new plug. But after I convince myself that the Ford one won't work.

Exactly, I just ordered it. I spliced, soldered and heat shrunk all my connections. On the right frame rail towards the end of it, there is a ground connection, that I used for my ground, 10mm wrench to loosen/tighten.

I finished mine yesterday. Also hooked up the strobing brake lights to CHMSL and the three I put below the tailgate. Took a small video but can"t download it to here.

Is there a way to upload videos ? I will get some pics tomorrow. But really need to show it in video to show the strobe/flashing brake lights.

Sortve my plan but want to make a plug to be able to disconnect it. Id love to see a picture if where exactly you mounted it in there to avoid interference with the tailgate. I still can't tell if the Ford one will fit in that small space on the F150. But I'll look harder tommorow.

For now, prephoto, I can tell you I centered it, and mounted as low as possible on the vertical flange. There is a lip on the bottom of the flange that sticks out about a 1/4". I just mounted it using that lip to level side to side.
How much more room is available with the Chevy light in place now? Do you think the Ford Light being 1 1/2" tall will fit? It is thinner than the Chevy one but a lot taller. |

And the tailgate dosent hit it opening and closing it. Did you take your tailgate off to mount it? I want to get this Ford light sent back and returned if it isn't going to work. I like the Ford light better but I don't think the tailgate will clear even if I can get it mounted. I'd hate to be able to mount it and then it won't work opening and closing the tailgate once I put it back on. Then I won't be able to return it and get my money back after modifying it.

To be on the safe side, I'd use the GM unit. I took measurements and posted them earlier in the thread. IIRC, the GM light is 15/16" high, so shorter than the Ford. If I planned on keeping this truck for a while, I would have just gone ahead and used those Blazer LEDs. You'd have to drill 3 holes, but all concerns of clearance wouldn't be there. BTW, those LEDs are the same size/brand as we used on semitrailers. They're good units. I know most are afraid to drill, but the corrosion/oxidation issues can be taken care of. I never had a problem on the steel of my '12, and no reason to think otherwise on this aluminum. In fact, if the 3M tape doesn't work out for whatever reason, I'll just drill a couple holes to mount with screws, or maybe those pushpins for trim. That's how I always mounted them on my F250HD, and on my Super Duty's. |
I know you guys are all looking at the GM and Ford lights, but this seem to fit the bill as well and only $15. These are only 1" tall, so appears to be a hair taller than the GM unit.
https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Lig...s/MCL98RB.html I have no experience with this product so I cannot speak to it's durability, but it certainly seems like it could be a viable option. |
