So I picked up a loaner today while Ford tries to find a fix for my truck intermittently dying, and noticed it had the tailgate drop button in the lower dash. Truck in question is a 21 F350 Platinum DRW 7.3 2wd with vinyl floors. I figured since the cabs are the same as the 13th gen 150s that maybe the button or lower dash assembly could be swapped with some wiring harness and forscan work.
The BCM monitors the state of the tailgate switch which is just a momentary switch. When the BCM senses the circuit ground (when you press the button) it then energizes the tailgate latch release circuit. To add a switch on the dash, all you need to do is add a momentary switch and tie it into the circuit in parallel.
