Default Tailgate damper

Have a platinum tuxedo black sport crew. The tailgate release option is great however when I release the tailgate it will free fall until the metal wires catch it. If I open the door manually I notice that the dampers catch it and it opens up smoothly. Has anyone else experienced this and if so any luck with a fix?

Take it to the dealership. That is not normal.

There was a similar post couple of months ago. Can't find it now, but the problem was that the tailgate damper was never installed at the factory. Easy dealer fix, as I recall.

Sounds like it's time to loop in your regional customer service manager for further assistance, TAP19. Please send a private message my way with your full name, VIN, current mileage, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get the ball rolling!

The damper is behind the right tail light.
