Tried searching but did not find much. My Father has my 2015 Platinum truck and the tailgate release button stopped working. The key fob will still open it but the actual button on tailgate will not.

 

The tailgate button probably needs to be replaced. The button is a momentary switch that closes the circuit that the BCM monitors and signals to the BCM to open the tailgate. The tailgate release is on a completely different circuit from the release button.

Sounds like you might have a problem with the tailgate electrical connector. I suggest disconnecting it and checking for moisture, corrosion, or damaged terminals.
