Default Tailgate Ajar warning on 2018s

Anybody know how to activate the tailgate ajar warning on a 2018? I did some searching of the treads and see that some older models required that a magnetic switch be added, but that it may be as easy as connecting a wire for the 2018s.

Had an experience this past weekend where knowing my tailgate was down while I was driving would have been helpful.

thanks!

I have a tonneau cover that can be pulled back with the tailgate open, so impossible to tell via my rear mirror if the gate is open or not.

It's kind of a pain, but at a stop light I just pop it in reverse real quick. If I am looking at the ground, tailgate is open. I do wish there was a tailgate ajar light like the doors have. Even better would be like the reverse sensor override, give me the option to override it if I am carrying a load.

Talking Its built-in since 2016 model

I have 2016 model and when I purchased it in Nov 2015, I noticed that it was displaying "Tailgate Ajar" warning on the dash. Took it to dealer who had not seen it before and they communicated with Ford. Ford asked them to disengage a cable from the tailgate and that warning since has not come up at all. What Ford later told me is that the tailgate sensor, though installed, was not intended to function.
Now its 2019 and it seems Ford still has not figured out how to make it work!

Default Use camera (if installed)

Before you drive, check the 360 camera ... if your tailgate camera shows your license plate, then tailgate is down.
Another way is to put it in reverse which will show tailgate camera.
I have not been able to view the tailgate on my rearview mirrors ... maybe its the angle I keep it in.

Putting it in reverse is what I've done when I wasn't sure if I put the tailgate back up but 360 is a great idea, don't need to come to a complete stop.

Or you could always follow the instructions in the linked thread and make it actually work right!
