Ford did think of it and they added it in 2016, but their implementation was poorly thought out. Owners who detach their tailgate to tow 5th wheels had to deal with a constant alarm while driving.

Rather than just make a simple menu to toggle it in on and off from the dash, Ford decided to disabled it for everyone in a BCM update done at the dealer, but the circuit and logic is still present.

We used the wiring diagrams and BCM data from 2016 F150’s to figure out how to add it to any F150.
