Has anyone done this to their 18 yet and where did you put the switch because my tailgate looks a little diff than picture posted of where the read switch was installed
It needs to NO because the truck registers the tailgate as open when the wires are not connected. You want the tailgate to close the switch to ground the circuit to turn off the warning.

For those who have the tailgate opening damper, is there a way to install a switch on that, inside the fender?
Yes, and that's a great location. Out of the weather, crap from the bed etc. and out of sight, didn't really need to but OCD kicked in and bent up a little bracket. Thanks for the idea, especially for not having a dog in the fight.

First of all, thank you for this great thread.

Would these pins work for the pin11 port?
I extracted them from a tailgate removal cap that came with the truck... I’ll never use it.

So once again Bret(my neighbor) installed his reed switches in the the same locale as i did using the OEM dampner in the pass. taillight cavity. As usual there is another problem with this Honeywell KC engineer of guidance systems of non nuke missiles, and that is he texted me to tell me he gets the tail gate ajar warning when his tail gate is shut and no warning when it's open. He has changed 726-25-01 0000 0000 0154 to 726-25-01 0000 0200 0156. We both have 16 502a; his was an 4/16 build and mine is a 6/16 build.. We both bought the Amazon DE 8600 micro magnetic switch. His is working the opposite of the way it should. These are nc switches when the contacts are apart.

Any ideas why his is different? Maybe he needs a no switch? Can't figure his newest problem.

So does the alarm clear when he opens it ? Im sure you tested the switch to confirm nc

My magnetic switch closes when the tailgate is open (open when the tailgate is closed).

Mine works, his is the opposite, tail gate ajar when closed and when opened the warning is cleared. It's highly possible the 10 year olds in China packaged the wrong item. noway that couldn't happen.

That's kind of what I was thinking.
