True, but we only smell it on HARD acceleration, IE, when I drive it, lol.

Dealer performed several tests and then replaced the tailgate lock actuator.

Well it's back, and this time I have a full 5 gallon gas can locked up in a hot bed with a tonneau I can't get into. Getting tired of this!!

Default Tailgate Actuator failed on 2015 Lariat

Mine failed too. Noticed when 98 degrees baking in the sun. It never came back, though. First time you hit it, it maybe worked at 20%, 2nd time, maybe 5%. Third time, 0%. Let it sit for 10 minutes, same performance. Got cooler, no difference.

Thank God I bitched to corporate when the service department screwed up a warranty fix on the seatbelts. Corporate extended the warranty to 5 years, 75,000 miles with a $100 deductible. I'm at 4 and 61,500 miles. The bill to replace the actuator without the warranty, $460.

While at the dealer, I bought a 2019 Escape S. It was a loaner with 3700 miles on it. I got it as new (full factory warranties from date and mileage at purchase). Sticker was $25,100. I got it for $15,093. 40% off..

Well I was going to just unplug the actuator, but screw it, I am making them replace it again. Hopefully soon they install or come out with a revised part. I still have 14K worth of warranty. I am using it!

This actually happened to me once (I've only had the truck for 1500 miles) on my brand new '19. Came out to the kayak launch in the morning at like 7AM and locked the truck. Came back at around noon and it took me damn near 20 min of fiddling with it before it finally unlocked and I could load back up. I figured it was an isolated incident and would go complain about it if it happened again.

Nope, upon searching further, there are 6 or 7 threads on this issue.

Called my dealer, the part number they have in stock to replace is the same as they put on last year. So without wasting time or parts, I decided to disable "autolock" in my cluster and control when the doors and tailgate lock. The other option was to unplug just the actuator, but that would mean I can never lock the tailgate.
