Default Tail Light Tint Complete!!

Hey guys, just did a light smoke tail light tint job on my 2015 tuxedo black this afternoon. First time installing so have a few minor imperfections, but not noticeable unless your looking for them...lol. Looks really good with the black truck. Reminds me of the color of the pre-2015 generation FX4 tail lights, that had a stock smoke tint to them. A before pic and a few after pics below.

Yes, Vvivid Smoke Black Air Release Tint. $15 Canadian on Amazon.ca. SWEET Mod for that cheap of a price!! The one roll did both tail lights and enough left for another, if i decided to redo one of them. CK Wraps on YouTube inspired me, as that's all he uses for headlight/tail light tint film.

You did MUCH better than myself!!!! I tried a number of times, and gave up until this weekend, member Dagojoe is going to do mine for me. I got the sides perfect, but the rear of them I just couldn't keep from wrinkling.
Any tips on getting a good job?
Yours look great!!

Hey John! I did like CK Wraps on YouTube showed, masked off the outline of the light, so the film doesn't stick so much, as it's very tacky. Used my heat gun sparingly, but it works well too, hit with a bit of heat for a few seconds, then stretch. Also decided to use a weak solution of water/dish soap on the outside while smoothing it out with the included squeegee, so I wouldn't make any scratches or marks on the outside of the film. I started on the side of the tail light (the longest piece), smoothing out and pulling back the tack and re-smoothing until I got to the corner, almost where the backup light window is. Then I pulled back the film from the tailgate corner of the light and smoothed out from the corner where I left off, back around to the edge of the light, closest to the tailgate. I found toward the rear, I pulled back the film and hit with a few seconds of heat, then stretched back toward the tailgate and stuck it on, then worked at the air bubbles. I did have a few minor imperfections, but hardly noticeable. If they bother me enough, I still have enough wrap to redo a light.

I got the same tint you have, and have been watching the CK Wraps videos too. I'm beginning to think I just don't have the patience. I did wrap my "B" pillars with some 3M 1080 Carbon Fiber, twice. The second time it came out decent. So I tried wrapping some interior stuff with the CF. Those armrests are a PITA, but I'm not gonna give up.
I wound up ordering a second roll of tint, a 3X5 piece, so "hopefully" I'll have plenty left over. I think if I see it done, I'll be able to do it well enough to please myself.
Thanks for the tips, and good job!!!

What percentage is that tint? Thinking about this myself eventually, the lights need just a little smoke color to them.

It's called "smoke black", just a very light smoke but looks great....just the right change from the bright red lights. Can't go wrong for $15 which gets you a 16" x 48" roll.

Lights look awesome! I used the same tint. It’s great! Wish it was a little darker, but the next darkest shade is too dark for my taste.

@johnday: use 2 people to tint the light. By myself it was pretty tough. I held the tint stretching it vertically and my chick held it horizontally. Start with the middle of the lights and work your way out. I found it was MUCH easier this way. First light by my self took about 20 min. With my chick, 10. Heat is your friend. When the areas got a little bunchy in the edges, I hit it with some heat and streched it out. But you also have to hit with heat after the stretch so the tint can shrink back. GL!

Thanks man! I'm getting together with another member Saturday, he gave me the ambition to do this. He's done it, so between the two of us, it should be a success.
