Default Sync3 - No luck updating

I am a new F150 owner and new to the forum. I have been reading the F150 forum postings and stickys and did see a lot of advice on Sync3 issues. I recently purchased a '16 F150 and the Sync3 version was at 1.0. I tried to update it via wifi and thumbdrive and had no luck. I wasn't getting errors, just no update would initiate. After 2 lengthy calls with the Ford Sync3 support folks they eventually advised I should have the dealer do it. The dealer tried to update it but even they failed. They had my truck in for several days and I needed to take it back with no change. Based on a conversation with the service manager, it seemed he was in the dark about Sync3 in general.

Eventually, through suggestions on this forum, got it to update to ver 2.2, however it seems to be the wrong build, not 2.2 17011.

So everything does work, except Android Auto doesn't see my phone at all, hence I really got nowhere as my goal was to use Android Auto in my non-nav Sync3.

I have an offical ver 3 update downloaded from My Ford but despite many attempts, I cannot get the update to even initialize. I tried splitting the install into 2 parts however no luck at all.

Might you have any advise for me on how to get this updated? I appreciate any suggestions you all may have.

If you have not registered your truck on the Ford owner website, you should. They have info on Sync, and a section on Device Compatibility. Might help.

Thanks. I registered at Ford a long time ago and downloaded the required update for my truck. Yes, I have a supported device too. I have followed the instructions and tried several times using different thumbdrives, formats etc. Are there some other instructions that I missed?? Two lengthy calls with Ford support and a trip to the dealer didn't solve anything. I had hoped someone here may have experienced a similar issue.

When you downloaded the Sync 3.0 update to your thumbdrive, do you recall how big the file is on the thumbdrive? Is the download corrupted? I don't remember what the total size was, I loaded it and dumped it when finished, maybe someone else on here knows.

I did my update on 2 different vehicles April 10, my '16 truck and '17 Edge using the same download for both. I plugged it in, engine running, and told it to search for updates. It worked automatically from there.

Another possibility is to do a Master Reset on Sync and start over. But "splitting the file" is a no go. Everyone loads the whole file, that is how it should work.

Try another flash drive. I followed Ford's instructions to a T and the install kept failing. Tried a different flash drive and it worked the first time.
