Sync3/Android Auto/2 Devices Throws Error
Hello, everyone.
I just updated to Sync3 Version 20204, but I haven't bothered to see if it solves the following problem. I'm pretty sure something like this wouldn't be fixed in the new version.
I've been using Android Auto with my Pixel 2 XL (getting a Pixel 5 next week) in my 2018 Lariat (floor shift) without problem for a long time.
I recently bought a somewhat expensive set of Sennheiser wireless earbuds. For security, I wanted to plug in the USB cord to charge the buds in the forward compartment with the 2 USB ports, which are also the ports used for Android Auto. I wanted them in there because I can close the cover and people can't see the Sennheiser buds case. Unfortunately, this causes Android Auto to throw an error as Sync3 is sensing my earbuds as a device rather than something just charging. This means I have to use the charging-only ports facing the backseat to charge, leaving my buds case in plain view where anyone who looks in my windows can see them.
Anyone have any similar experiences or know of any workarounds? The only secure alternative I can think of is to charge inside the center console with a cigarette lighter style charging cord adapter. However, then I have to deal with the very real problem of stuff inside the vault banging against the charger in the port, possibly damaging the port or the charging port of my buds case.
All answers greatly appreciated.

I would buy a longer charge cable, plug it in the rear outlets, run it to where you want to store the charge case.
in my experience, never have seen this error, we've had two phones hooked up and charging from the two usb ports without issues, the only thing we have to do is select which phone source is being used, other than that, works like a charm.

Just a quick update. Tried it again today a few different ways on the new 20204 firmware. Tried plugging it in the USB port while my phone was connected with Android Auto running and without, tried unplugging my phone after getting the error, finally, on a clean boot of Sync3, just tried plugging in the Sennheiser case/charger by itself. Threw the error each time. The exact error was, "This USB device is not supported. Please remove." I will figure something else out. Seems ridiculous that even after a firmware upgrade that was released within the last 2 weeks I'm getting this error on a device that was released 7.5 months ago and doesn't interface with a computer.
Hey Pig Vomit,
This may seem elementary but when you hit OK on the error message, does AA still function? I ask because I have a few devices that I plug in up fron that throw the same error but it doesn't shut down AA... sorry I don't have a better solution!
