Default Sync will not update

I have 2018 rcsb with sync radio version 2.3. I can not get it to update. I go to fords and put in my vin and shows an error. I contacted ford support and they placed the vin and is showed an error. Yes I did use the right vin. My question is has anyone purchased a apim from Amazon or another vendor. Thanks

Search for the sync update thread. It should have all of the info you need. I doubt you need a new APIM just to update sync.

Just to make sure, go to the Ford Owner web site and set up an account with your VIN. It will tell you whether a Sync update is available (also nav maps) and give you a direct link to where you should download it. This is easier and more reliable than manually checking and having to type in your VIN. I also doubt you need a new APIM since the error as you describe it is on the web site, not the vehicle. If you're on the right web site there should be no issue of it accepting a valid Ford VIN.

I just recently updated my 2017. The update started installing and then a message popped up really fast and said something about restarting the truck, but I missed it and let it continue and it stopped updating so I turned the truck off, opened the door, restarted the truck, and the update started up again and finished after 20 or 30 minutes approximately. I’m not sure of the time!
I would have missed the message if I wouldn’t have been looking at the screen, because it didn’t show for long at all. I didn’t even have time to read the whole message.

That's a good thing, because that message that just pops up for a moment in the middle of the installation is wrong. If you had pulled your flash drive and restarted then, it would not have finished the installation. I found that out the hard way the first time I tried an update. You must wait unti the very end, when a persistent window pops up (and stays up) saying you are finished. If you interrupt the installation before this point, you'll have to start over from the beginning.
