Tried updating my sync and got an error message. It’s a 2016 Sync 3 1.0. I’ve done the master reset and still get the error. It says the installation has run out of space or does not work with this version. Anyone run into this? The shop says it’s $100 to update it for me.
More details would be nice...
What year vehicle?
What version of Sync originally?
What version are you trying to update to?
What exactly is the rror message? Error code that was displayed?
These would help a great deal in coming up with a possible solution.
It’s a 2016 F-150 with sync 3 1.0 trying to go to the current update. The ford owners page said that update would work with mine and could skip updates. I just got the truck and am trying to get it so I can use CarPlay. I’ve got the new USB ports already installed.
Doing these updates requires you to have a certain numbered GB thumb drive. I think it's at least 8 or 16 gigs (?). The thumb drive also can not having any other files on it when you download the update file. You probably already know this but, with that message, it might refer to the thumb drive space and not the Sync itself. Just a guess. At any rate, I would try disconnecting the battery for 5 or so minutes and reset the whole truck. Even doing that, you don't lose much.
I followed the directions on the Ford site exactly. It took 23 minutes to update from Sync3 V1 to V3.0 on my 2016. I was going to say it sounds like a space issue.
