Well just chatted with a support person from Ford, and this is what she said:

Meghan says:
We are currently waiting for the SYNC 3 software update to be released. We can not speculate on a release date at this time. You will want to keep an eye on the software update page within your Owner account for update announcements and alerts. Once the update has been released, you can either install via WiFi connection in the vehicle or download the update from your Owner account and install via USB.

So I will check back next week. I have the file on a USB, but a bit hesitant on doing it myself. If I screw up is on me. If Ford screws up, well I don't pay out of pocket.

Where can I order, and what is the item # for Sync 3 apple carplay USB port replacement part?

I did it. Its as easy as inserting the usb drive.

I checked with the folks at TASCA and they said it is back on backorder. Tentative availability 01/27/2017.

I was one of the many people in this forum that couldn't wait to do this update. I ordered the module and I did the software update with success. One month later and I don't think I have used CarPlay in my truck but maybe a few times.

Ive been in the same boat, but resisted multiple times. My actual need for car play is pretty low as the phone has navigation anyways, I can play my music via usb or BT anyways. Cant see myself needing a map until summer time trips

Not sure if you`re interested but I hope it`s working well for you.

I was on the Ford Owner website yesterday and I spoke with Joy via the online chat feature and I asked her about any updates for SYNC 3 because i`ve heard that version 2.2 is out.

What she told me is that i`m correct about version 2.2 being out but it`s for Lincoln & Lincoln only and that I should not download it.

She said what you said in your previous posting and that is to keep looking at my Ford Owner profile for the official release for Ford vehicles with SNYC 3.

I have a 2016 Lariat and I want to do the upgrade like you but i`m still hesitant to do so.

Like I said in the beginning, I hope it`s working well for you without any problems.

Ha. Same here. I've had mine more than a month and I hardly use it. I do have a friend that has the bigger screen but no nav so he uses it a ton for the Apple maps.
