Sync connect on an 18 xlt
I wanted sync connect on my 18 screw xlt but they said it wasn't offered .it looks like the 2017 had it https://www.fordpass.com/en_us/support/sync-connect.html
is there something new coming? Why on the 17 and not on 18?
Thanks
Mike

At this point only you can add it and it is not easy, but it is possible. You will have to find a wrecked new Ford vehicle with Sync 3 and Sync connect, take the activated AT&T modem out, wire 4 or 6 wires into your truck then enable it with ForScan or IDS. Some BCMs need a firmware update, but with a 2018 F150 you should be able to skip that step. I know two people who have done that already and it's your only option for Sync connect at this point unless if you swap trucks. The modems work across Fords lineup, so you could pull one from a Focus, explorer, super duty or whatever... There is a chance Ford might deactivate it for the people who've done this which is why it is almost never talked about publicly. I know it works, I've personally seen it installed and working on a Ford vehicle where Sync connect was never an option. There seems to be no special permissions or validation checks on the server end. In both cases it was just a matter of plugging it in and activating it with ForScan, but again on older vehicles a BCM firmware flash was required so that the BCM could determine what module (Sync connect) was talking to it on the can bus. Ford's website and app will report/display the correct vehicle the modem is connected to and not the vehicle the modem was pulled out of so there seems to be no backend specific data.
Happy modem hunting!
