Default Sync alternative

When I bought my 2016 the dealer mentioned Ford had something you could plug in to replicate what the sync modem does in the 17-newer models. I'd really just like the ability to remote start from my cell phone, is there anything out yet that would let me do that? I have the 302a group with carplay if that matters.

Ford SmartLink, available to some dealers, wider availability later this year.

Unlike Sync Connect where your cost is up-front, it looks like this has a monthly access fee. So if getting a new vehicle Sync Connect is the cheaper option if you keep the vehicle longer than two years (Just a future FYI)

Awesome, thank you! I was going to buy a '17, but the '16 CPO was a much better value. 4k less with every available XLT 302a option (FX4, sport, locking rear diff, moonroof, 20" rims, 36gal tank, tow mirrors etc.) compared to the '17 that only had the sync/sport added. Promising that it goes on your verizon bill as I get quite a bit off through my employer.

Sure thing! I got to beta test it on our 2014 Flex, it’s a great system. Backend is called Delphi Connect. Ford just retooled the UI and that. It worked very well and I think you will be happy. Only downside is it plugs into your obd2 port which isn’t quite as sleek as integrated but hardly a deal killer.
