Default Sync 3.4 USB issues

Oops! I meant 3.4

I recently converted my 2016 F150 from a bench to a center console. The process didn't involve much other than moving the USB port which previously worked fine to the cubby area of the new console. I used the same module. All went fine but now there is no power to the USB hub. Forscan throws up a code of no power to the USB. I can find no issue with power either cord other than no power. I have replaced the USB cable with new just in case. No joy. For what it's worth, this hub never did light the lamps around the USB ports but it always functioned fine.

I have found a few posts that refer to the AP
IM shutting off the power to the USB when certain things aren't correct but I can't find a reference to that in any Forscan notes or what settings to adjust to turn it back on. Assuming that is what happened. Any help would be appreciated. What would cause the power loss? Thanks for the help.

I'd check the connector at the hub end with a multimeter to see if there's voltage. Does the console swap involve a wiring change or does the original harness reach? Did you make any Forscan changes as part of this project?
Maybe worth a look at the fuse before you get too deep into things.

Thanks for the reply. I did all that several times. There is no voltage at the plug into the hub. No changes were made and I did replace the harness from the APIM to the hub. I also replaced the hub itself. Fuses? That's what I suspect but there is none to be found in the truck manual nor can any blown fuses in either of the fuse boxes. I've looked through the both the as built and the current system settings and can't see any difference other than the diagnostics throwing up a DTC of no power to USB.

Yesterday, I also connected a trailer and the system won't detect it. It had always worked fine previously. I have no idea if the two have anything in common.

I would add, over the years I have made many changes to the truck and up to now all was well. The changes included swapping in the 8" screen and FCIM with climate control. It all works fine other than the passenger side temp control which is no surprise. Installed a cluster from Livinet, all of the usual Forscan changes most do. Updated to power seats.18" wheels with corrections to speedometer and the so called Lie O Meter. Point is, it's been a while, over five years since and all was well. This console thing shouldn't have changed anything. But it did. I'm fairly proficient at this sort of thing but the problem is I have no idea which line of code in which module may have shut the system down. If so, likely after a wire was pinched accidentally. Also, which fuse would normally power these systems if any?

Hoping somebody can point out where to go.

Again, thanks for responding.

Hmm... Good info. Looks like GND and 12v come from the APIM directly (wiring diagram below).
Since this was just a hardware change I'm inclined to suspect the new harness unless proven otherwise.
Maybe you've done this already but can you check continuity on the new harness from end to end and between pins to see if anything is shorted together or no connection?
Compare against old harness and make sure all the pins are in the same location?
Another thing... May be worth disconnecting the battery for a while to let the APIM fully shut down and reboot.

Thanks, the schematic should be helpful. I hadn't installed the second harness until after the problem cropped it's head so I'm fairly sure that's not the issue. I will pin it out and check the continuity. And I never thought to disconnect the battery. I'll give that a try in the morning. The rest will have to wait a few days a family issue came up.

Thanks for the help. I'll follow up with what I find.

This is exactly what I'm dealing with. I installed the console, and can't seem to get power to the USB hub. I'd read where the 2018 versions don't need power to function, but this isn't the case with mine. I'm going to run external wired power to the hub via the MU2Z-14S411-MA. Maybe this will work.

Definitely keep us posted with your findings.

Well I finally got around to figuring this out. Pretty silly on my part. I originally updated this truck to an 8" and should have known better. But I never removed the original wires and cables. Well that came back to bite me. When I installed the center console I connected the USB hub to the old cable. I did have to open the entire dash up to track it all down and that cable pulled a pretty good hiding act on me. All is fine now except the halo lights around the USB ports still refuse to light up. But that was always the case. Thanks again to Midwest Mike for the schematic.

Sorry it took so long. But it is spring and as always there's a lot to keep us busy.
